The Walking Dead: 400 Days

Posted by & filed under Games, Reviews.

The Walking Dead has become one of the most successful modern Adventure titles, spawning a five episode downloadable story arc, as well as a retail game. Now, Telltale Games returns with the latest entry, 400 Days. The awesome folks over there threw a review code my way, and after plowing through the incredibly short addition to the ever growing story line, I put a quick video reviw together to talk about why I enjoy this latest entry the most.

Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014

An unexpected review code hit my inbox early last week. Edelman PR shot over a review code of the recently released 2014 edition of Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers on Xbox Live. As a fan of the card game, and previous entries in this series, I decided to drop everything and start working on it. Check out my thoughts on this new rendition.

State of Decay

State of Decay

Since it’s release, I’ve been workin on the new Xbox Live Arcade title, State of Decay About a week ago I shot this review but never did anything with it. I thought maybe I was being unjust in it. However, after another couple days of gaming, I found the review holding true. Does State of Decay hold up to the twenty dollar (US) price tag, or is this an open world fiasco?

CastleStorm

When Zen Studios announces a new title, right away you come to expect quality and fun gaming experiences. Known most for their line-up of pinball entries, such as the Pinball FX series, the company sets its sights on the Strategy field with CastleStorm. On the exterior, it looks like a typical Angry Birds casual game knock-off, but, at it’s core, is just a little more to give it a fun, somewhat unique edge that can be rather addicting. Available at the modest price of ten dollars in US funds, is this worth shelling your hard earned money out to download, or is it still one that should be ignored?

God Mode

God Mode was released by Atlus, but developed by a small company called Old School Games. It’s a dark and gritty Third Person Shooter Action title that recently hit the Xbox Live Arcade Marketplace, as well as the PlayStation 3 store, and even on the PC. This is one of those very few games I just up and grabbed based solely on recomendations from friends due to starving to play something engaging after the BattleBlock Theater fiasco. Given how it looked and the concept of the title, this was a no brainer. Run and gun down hordes of enemies, what could be better than that? Oh, yeah, right, perhaps a single player mode. Yes, that’s right, this is a strictly on-line multiplayer title for up to four players only, but does it have what it takes to keep the most dedicated of solo games coming back for more “friendly” competition amongst internet strangers?

BattleBlock Theater

When it comes to gaming, one of the most well known names out there right now is The Behemoth. The company had an underground smash hit with Alien Hominid on the GameCube, which got the HD treatment for the Xbox Live Arcade later on. They then issued their wildly popular Castle Crashers title as part of the Summer of Arcade initiative, and have since been working on their next big title, BattleBlock Theater. With the signature hand drawn artwork on display, many fans (including myself) couldn’t wait for the end result, still riding the high of their previous outting. But, did The Behemoth score big with this new venture, or is it one many will be sweeping under the rug?

Rock Band Blitz

Posted by & filed under Games, Reviews.

With the music game market oversaturated thanks to the likes of the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises, it’s easy to be put off by the concept of another new game or expansion. In fact, many companies that supported these projects had dropped working on new entries all together not that long ago. Harmonix, however, has not turned their back on their creation, and still feel the need to release new songs on the Rock Band Marketplace every week, and even develop new and interesting ways to play. Rock Band Blitz makes for the latest innovation, which isn’t so much an upgrade as it is a downgrade. But, could this be just as much fun, or even alluring to new audiences who felt plastic instruments were just a waste of time?

Dust: An Elysian Tail

With the Xbox Live “Summer of Arcade” series coming to a close, it seems as if the company has saved their best for last. With the trailers sweeping through the internet gaming community at the time of this review, there’s no denying that the final title of the five is going to be one that really stands out. Dust: An Elysian Tail has all the markings of the early Action/RPG game, but with a vibrant modern visual push behind them. With such potential on display, does Humble Hearts manage to deliver a strong effort that digital gamers have been waiting for?

First Impression - Deadlight

Deadlight
As some of you may have seen at one point, the power was out at my place due to a strong storm that hit. Tornados, flash floods, cats living with dogs in harmony, that sort of thing. This took time away from two of the Xbox Summer of Arcade titles, and given my current living arrangements, that time is very precious now. At this point I’ve taken a break from the other title, and have been working on the one that many of you, and those on my Xbox account friend list according to the flood of messages I received, are anxiously awaiting to hit: Deadlight. It drops on the Marketplace Wednesday, August 1st, and I don’t know if I will have a full blown review available prior to when it becomes available for purchase given that I’m nearing the end of part two now, so I figured I’d take some time to talk about this title real quick.
