Jason “Apoch” Weiss, born August 10th, 1985, has been a fan of Heavy Metal since he was thirteen. It was a slow progression through musical experimentation, having grown up listening to Classical and early Rock music, eventually graduating into the then called “Mallcore” style. Due to personal events, one of the important musical figureheads in his life suggested he check out Criteria for a Black Widow by Annihilator, an album that saved his life, sanity, and made him the man he is today.

Since then, he moved on to begin working towards a degree in Broadcast Communications in 2004. This lead to his employment with WSFX FM at the same time due to his passion for music, and the interest he showed towards the radio station years prior. He eventually moved up from being a DJ to the Metal Direction, a position he held for three straight years, changing a simple two hour block of Metal into a full day event every single Tuesday, and worked with five other knowledgeable fans of Metal to ensure a solid experience each week.

Due to personal issues, problems with living arrangements, health complications, and a stable job offer elsewhere, Apoch was forced to step down from his position, but it wouldn’t be a farewell from the Metal promotional field.

Come August, 2008, he had bought the final bad album he wanted to buy. Irritated by the many poor albums he and his friends acquired recently, Apoch set out on a venture to create a site that reviewed all the new puchases he made, as well as releases in his own library from the Metal, Movie, and Game fields, all in an effort to “Weed out the bullshit in Metal today.” On August 10, 2008, the site went live via a free server. As the visitors began to grow, this didn’t become a pet project for his friends, but rather a warning system for all of the internet.

It wasn’t long before the concept of Game and Movie reviews were shelved for a time, and Apoch’s became the “online mecca of underground extremity” (Clawhammer PR) that it is today. Apoch’s has a loyal foundation of readers with a hit count of roughly 150,000 unique visitors every thirty days (last checked May 1st, 2012). The numbers continue to grow as more movie reviews are added, and game developers/publishers have joined on in support of the expansion to the site towards video game reviews, an aspect originally intended at launch, but didn’t come to be.

As of April 10th, 2012, Apoch’s has been working towards shifting it’s database into WordPress for a better, streamlined, and professional experience, as well as appearance. This is no longer a personal question, but a dedicated goal to make it easy for anyone looking to buy quality over quantity, who want originality over mimickery, and who wish to discover something they may never have seen/heard before by continuing the quest to expose the generic “bullshit” in the music, film, and gaming world of today.
