Happy Action Theater

After waiting and spending plenty of hard earned money on bills until the day I could save up enough to finally obtain an Xbox 360 Kinect peripheral, the day finally came. Racing home with my fiancee I found a nice spot for the sensor, plugged it in, and started plowing through the many acquired titles for it. But there had been one Xbox Live Arcade title that kept peaking my interest. Double Fine, the creators of Brutal Legend, had a mini-game driven title named Happy Action Theater on the marketplace, and given their quite wide diversity when it comes to new titles, it was something I couldn’t help but throw some money at. But, was it really worth it?

Spider-Man: Edge of Time

After the success of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Marvel Comics and Activision went back to Beenox Studios to usher out the next Spider-Man-themed video gaming hit. Spider-Man: Edge of Time takes hold of gamer’s interest and positive feedback toward the Spider-Man 2099 character and weaves a story line based around him and the modern day Spidey. Together in differing dimensions, the two have to stop the time travelling Walker Sloan from taking over the world by going back in time and starting up Alchemax to save his loved ones by redoing the universe. But, can Beenox capitalize on the suggest and intrigue of the last title, or is this just a rehashed version with seperate story line?

X-Men: Destiny

Silicon Knights, the company that brought us the game Too Human return with a brand new Marvel Comics licensed title: X-Mean: Destiny. Unlike many other titles in the franchise, you cont.rol the fates of three individuals as they learn of their mutant powers and suffer the same segregation that they either were for or against in their lives. Your job as a gamer is to guide their fate to either the X-Men or the Brotherhood, and put an end to the tyranny of the U-Men and everyone involved in an assault on the mayor during a Human/Mutant peace rally. With a unique history for each character, does X-Men: Destiny have what it takes to put name of Silicon Knights out there farther then their previous releases did, or does it suffer the same flaws gamers have experienced in the past?

Xbox 360 Afterglow Controller

I wouldn’t normally bother writing a review on gaming accessories, mostly because I personally don’t really care or have much use for them. Many years ago, you could call me a hardcore gamer. I entered Gamerscore competitions on-line, I would spend hours upon hours every day just playing games every day of the week, and a lot of my money was tied up in the latest releases. But, then I got a full time job and a full-time relationship. I got my own place and my own bills that leaves me very little of my full-time pay checks left, and the rest goes into this site. However, that hardcore gamer inside didn’t necessarily die, and once in a while I would happen upon a game for sale, borrowed from a friend, or a rental that I knew I could easily unlock all achievements in given the right amount of time, dedication, and craftiness. In came my urge to buy two additional controllers for my Xbox 360 console (already having two wireless ones that unfortunately are f.u.b.a.r. right now due to crappy games and a short fuse). I took what little money I had, and picked up two brand new PDP Afterglow controllers. But was it really worth it?

The Adventures of Shuggy

The Adventures of Shuggy, such an odd title for a new, yet heavily obscure title. This little Platforming Puzzle gem can be found on the digital marketplaces for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles, and it will immediately leave players with mixed emotions. You play as the main character, Shuggy, a purple bat thing with vampire teeth and a cape, who just inherited a castle. Now, it’s up to you and some of your non-playable character friends to clear it of varying threats including spiders, hornets, mostquitos, ghosts, zombie, robots, random floating balls that are mines, and more in a 2D setting. While the cartooney approach to the game is enjoyable, it’s the frustrations this game employs that will have players on the edge, especially those with no friends.

Galaga Legions DX

Shooter/Shmup
PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade
Reviews based on the XBLA version
Publisher: Namco Bandai
Developer: Namco Bandai
Release Date: June 29th, 2011
Achievement Guide Available
Galaga has been an important and staple video game ever since it’s introduction back in 1981 in arcades all across Japan and North America. Over the years, the game has been tweaked and altered, usually not much, but sometimes quite dramatically. Namco has since made the original title available digitally, such as on the Xbox Live Arcade. As the years have gone on, the company has worked on revitalizing many of their original titles, and in 2010 announced the Namco Generations line of downloading games that would see the classics modernized. While Pac-Man Championship Edition DX was the launching title, it was simply a rehashed version of Pac-Man Championship Edition with a little extra flare. Would Galaga Legions suffer the same fate as Pac-Man Championship Edition did, or would it have more stock to it other then a few modified components?
