Anyone with their ear to the Death Metal underground, or at least those who enjoy the fine releases of F.D.A. Rekotz, have surely heard of Obscure Infinity and Wound at this point. The first is a German group that formed in 2007 and named themselves after a song by the band Grave, the latter from the same region but having come together in 2011 with only one full-length compared to the other’s two. For 2014, the label has brought these two together for a highly limited seven-inch vinyl split of only five hundred pressed titled Souls of Eternal Damnation. But does it act as a great introduction to these bands, or are these just some generic fodder aimed at keeping fans happy until the next release?

Text Interview - Simon Venig of Keitzer

Since 2001’s …to Destroy the Planet, Keitzer has been destroying listener’s senses with truly brutal Death Metal and Grindcore. Now the group unleashes what roughly fourteen years of activity have all built towards with their fifth album, The Last Defence. With the new effort available, I got the change to shoot some questions over to bassist Simon Venig about the release, tour dates, and even his label 7Degrees Records.

Metal Review - Keitzer: The Last Defence

Germany’s Keitzer may have been around the start of the century, but they have remained a largely underground force to be reckoned with when it comes to the Death Metal meets Grindcore field. 2001 saw their debut full-length …to Destroy the Planet tear through those aware of the group or observant enough to find them. Since then the band has wasted no time going from one small label to the next to wreak havoc on all who happen in their path. In 2011, Keitzer was picked up by F.D.A. Rekotz to issue their fourth album, Descent into Heresy, which was largely met with praise all around. About three years later the five-piece returns with its follow-up, The Last Defence. But does this stand as a bone jarring experience, or is this far from as crushing as previous efforts have established?

The German Death Metal and Grindcore group Keitzer formed back in 1999 and since then has issued four full-length albums. 2014’s The Last Defence marks their fourth outing from the established five-piece group, which will be released on July 18th. Until you can own your personal copy, you can stream the whole thing until it’s released this coming Friday thanks to the awesome brothers in Metal of F.D.A. Rekotz and Clawhammer PR!

Morfin: Inoculation

California’s Morfin is a fairly new band, though their music would have you think otherwise. The four-piece group came together in 2010, and issued their first demo, Crystal Darkness, about a year later. It made the typical rounds in the Death Metal underground, though never really clawed out of obscurity. Fast forward a few years, and the group has been picked up by the powerhouse known as F.D.A. Rekotz to issue their debut full-length album Inoculation for an early 2014 release. But, given their distinctly familiar sound, is this a group that is poised to make a name for themselves other than that of Chuck Schuldiner?
